The Dorothy Molter Museum is a registered 501(c)3 private, non-profit organization based in Ely, Minnesota. The museum is open to the public from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend and weekends through September and October. Museum staff includes an executive director and visitor services manager with several seasonal assistants and interpreters.
The Dorothy Molter Museum preserves and interprets Northwoods wilderness heritage through learning opportunities inspired by Dorothy Molter, the last non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
The Dorothy Molter Museum is a dynamic and widely recognized educational organization. It is highly valued for its historical resources and educational impact. The museum inspires the next generation of Northwoods stewards through Dorothy’s legacy. As we continue to remember Dorothy and keep her spirit alive, it is our hope that we all dedicate our lives to live as Dorothy did, in harmony with the environment, with great dignity, courage, helping humankind, and making a significant contribution toward a better world.
You can help by supporting the Dorothy Molter Museum in the following ways:
